Campfire Theories: The Evil Nun: The Broken Mask
The Evil Nun: The Broken Mask, is a brand new remake being released by Kelprians on October 31st, 2022. As an avid watcher of the channel SuperHorrorBro, I was already excited for the game’s release when he first talked about it. Due to bringing this awareness to the game, SuperHorrorBro was given an early access code to play it before the game is released in full. After watching his playthrough a few times, I’ve developed my own theories for how this graphically impressive game may play out.
From what can be read in the description of the game, you play as a young kid who was invited to a religious summer camp. However, it’s not what you expect. This is because as soon as you arrive you are hit in the head with a sledge hammer by Sister Madeline and dragged into a dilapidated room within the decrypted school house. When you wake, you are tasked with the objective to escape by solving various puzzles and avoiding the evil nun within the school. As you solve these puzzles you will soon discover you are not the only trapped here. As it can be surmised, the premise for the is quite simple and straightforward. From what was seen from the gameplay SuperHorrorBro uploaded, it will definitely take a number of tries to learn what you need to do as the game does not spoon feed player on how to solve its puzzle; not that they’re so overly complicated that the game would need to.
Right off the bat, it is clear who the enemy is and what we must do to escape the wrath of her sledge hammer. The nun is wary of you, every loud noise you make will attract her if she’s near. From what we see in the beginning of the game, there are many secrets to unlock. There’s a mysterious red device in your room with no code to be found along with many notes scattered about the old school house. At first, it seems you're alone but as you solve the puzzles to make your escape you see small pieces of evidence that there are other kids being held hostage within the confines of the school. What I’m theorizing might happen is that through each playthrough the player does, more and more secrets will be unlocked. This could probably be way to help free the other children trapped and maybe even allow the player to take Sister Madeline out for good. Despite her nun attire and consistent recitation of verses from the Bible, she acts like a servant from hell. Maybe the player could end up using these verses against the evil nun and send her back where she came from cornering her in the room engulfed by flames.
Even if that isn’t the case, defeating Sister Madeline by escaping will probably become more difficult over time due to the fact that outside nuns are helping her by delivering the children. This makes me wonder if these more mundane nuns will play a role in keeping Sister Madeline’s victims trapped inside the school. It makes me wonder how the player will be able to rescue these other kids while evading both the mundane nuns keeping them and the Evil Nun herself.
Although there is not much to go off of yet from the small gameplay that’s been seen from early access, it nevertheless looks promising and sets a great atmosphere to really scare the socks off of those who play the game. Especially since she can and will crawl into the vents after you.
